Aspirations
I’ve always been a big fan of classical music and piano compositions, and I’ve always tried to implement piano in a lot of my music. However, common feedback I receive is that my pianos don’t sound realistic, or that they’re too “MIDI”. Which is definitely true. With this project, I wanted to come as close to authentic pianos as I could, without actually recording a pianist.
There’s still room for improvement, but I think the biggest difference between this track and previous ones that incorporated piano parts, was the use of velocity control. I’ve never payed much attention to velocity prior, and you can definitely hear the difference.
I also wanted the piano part to be realistic from a musical perspective as well. I’m not a pianist, and writing a believable melody and harmony for the piano was quite challenging. Overall I think this is one of my best compositions thus far. Let me know what you think!
